Membership & Eligibility
-
What makes a credit union different from a bank?
We are a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative. Unlike banks, which are owned by shareholders and driven by profit, credit unions exist to serve their members. Because of this structure, we're able to offer better rates on loans, higher dividends on savings, and lower fees. When you open an account with us, you become a member-owner with a voice in how the credit union is run, including voting in board elections.
-
How can I become a member?
Anyone who lives or works or has a family member who lives or works in Boone County, MO, Jefferson County, MO, St. Louis, MO, St. Louis County, MO, St. Charles County, MO, Warren County, MO, Franklin County, MO, Lincoln County, MO, and Sikeston, MO, and all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and student organizations at Mizzou, Stephens College and Columbia College.

-
Are my deposits insured?
Yes. Your deposits are federally insured up to $250,000 per individual depositor by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. This provides the same level of protection as FDIC insurance at banks. Coverage extends to checking accounts, savings accounts, money market accounts, and certificates of deposit (CDs). For more information, visit MyCreditUnion.gov. Tigers Community members also receive an additional $750,000 in coverage provided by ESI, a licensed insurance company.

-
Can I still be a member if I move out of the area?
Yes! Once you become a member of our credit union, you can remain a member even if you move. You'll continue to have full access to all of our products and services through online banking, mobile banking, our nationwide ATM network, and shared branching locations.

What happens to a member's account when they pass away?
We understand this is a difficult time, and we're here to help. If a beneficiary (payable-on-death) is designated, the named beneficiary can claim the funds by presenting a certified death certificate and valid identification. If there is no joint owner or beneficiary, the account becomes part of the estate and requires legal documentation such as Letters Testamentary to access. Please contact us at (888) 673-2844 or visit any branch to begin the process.
